160 religious heads gather for the first time

The first meeting of Head of the National Congregation of the religious organisations was held in Thimphu yesterday. About 160 Heads attended the meeting. During the opening, the Prime Minister, Jigmi Y Thinley said Lams and Heads of the religious organisations or Tshodzins should know their roles and responsibilities.

58% TB treatment rate

With 92 percent success, Bhutan beats the global target of Tuberculosis treatment rate of 58 percent. Villagers walk for an hour to fetch wate

Absence of a road is not the only problem faced by the villagers of Tsuendugang under Naja Gewog in Paro. The villagers are also deprived with water for drinking and irrigation purposes. The villagers have to walk for almost an hour to fetch water from an open source. They said even after walking for hours, the water at the source is not sufficient.

Bypass road affects Zhemgang town

A few years back, quite a number of vehicles used to travel through Zhemgang. But with the opening of the 16-kilometre Tingtibi – Wangdigang bypass road, vehicles have stopped coming to Zhemgang.

Dhung and Bjaling makers of Tsebar, doing well

It has been more than 20 years that a few men of Tsebar village in Pemagatshel tried their hands into learning a new craft- the craft of making Dung and Bjaling. Water becoming scarce by the day

Bhutan enjoyed, for quite some time, the privilege of having maximum per capita water availability in the world. But today, the picture has changed. As Bhutan observed the World Water Day today experts send a grim reminder that water sources in Bhutan are drying up. The Water Resources Specialist from the National Environment Commission, Gongsar Karma Chhopel, said most water sources in the country are drying up.

Daycare centre free of cost in Lingmithang

It is free of cost. A new daycare centre was opened in Lingmithang, Monggar yesterday. Unlike the day care centres in the urban areas, the centre in Monggar is targeted towards low income families. Fifty five children aged between two to five years have applied but the centre could take in only 46 children as the rest were too young.
