Thai support for school agriculture programme

The Deputy Director General of Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency presented over US$ 40,500 to the Education Ministry to support school agriculture programme. The Deputy Director General presented the amount on behalf of the office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s project in Thailand.

58% Dagaps Dzongkha literate

About 58 percent of the population in Dagana is Dzongkha literate. They can speak, read, write and understand the National Language. This was revealed during a recent survey conducted by the education sector of Dagana Dzongkhag.

Third Druk Gyalpo awarded the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour

His Late Majesty the King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the Third Druk Gyalpo, was awarded the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour in Dhaka in a solemn awarding ceremony presided by the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh today. The honour was awarded as a recognition of Bhutan’s contribution to Bangladesh’s Independence War of 1971.

More grant assistance from Japan

The Japanese government today extended a grant assistance of about Nu. 7 million to the Fire Service Division of the Royal Bhutan Police and Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag. The grant was extended under “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects” scheme.

Encouraging farmers to store

Maize is one of the major home-grown crops, especially for the people of the east. It is also a staple diet for many. However, lack of proper storage is a major problem faced by the people. Due to this, stored maize grains are lost to pests, disease and wild animals.

Dungsam Polymers inaugurated

The Dungsam Polymers Limited, a DHI owned company, was opened yesterday. It is the second and the largest polymers company in the country. It was established primarily to produce cement packing bags for the Dungsam Cement Corporation Limited, which is yet to be completed. The company has a capacity to produce 100,000 bags in a day on an average.

Long walk to education

It has been the government’s effort to reduce walking distance of students to school to one hour. Despite that, some students in the remote areas still walk more than an hour to get to the nearest school. One such school is the Womanag community school in Bumdeling Gewog under Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag.

2nd International ICT gateway launched

Information and Communications Minister, Nandalal Rai, formally inaugurated the much-awaited second international ICT service gateway at Gelephu telecom Office, today. The gateway at Gelephu will complement the only international gateway at Phuentsholing, to help provide better and reliable internet services in the country.

Special card for Khasadrapchu MSS toppers

It was a special day today at the Khasadrapchu Middle Secondary School in the capital. The student toppers of the school received a prestigious congratulatory card directly from His Majesty the King. The cards carry the Royal Signature of His Majesty the King, complimenting the students for their performance, encouraging them to continue the good work and wishing another great year.

Queen Mother interacts with Bumthaps

Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck met with the people of Chhoekhor Gewog and the Chamkhar business community in Bumthang, today. Her Majesty interacted with the people and emphasised on prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
