Brought under control after 5 days

(Forest fire update) The forest fire at Jarey Gewog in Lhuntse was brought under control today. However, the Beat Officer,Tsheten Dorji, said there are chances that the fire might rekindle if strong winds continue to blow.

Man arrested for possessing controlled substances

Police in Phuenstholing apprehended a 38-year-old man in connection with illegal transaction of controlled substances in the country. He was caught with 10 files of Nitrosun 10 and 60 files of Relipen tablet.

Anthrax outbreak in Kanglung and Khaling

Five cows died after an outbreak of Anthrax was reported at Yonphula and Jomrey under Kanglung and Khaling Gewog in Trashigang on February 13. Local residents informed about the death of their animals five days after the outbreak.

Suspects arrested

(Stabbing update) Two suspects involved in a stabbing case on Wednesday have been arrested early this morning. One was caught at Chubachu while the other suspect was arrested from Olakha. Both of them are school dropouts.

Mysterious woman?

Bio-gas picking up in Tsirang as well

Use of bio-gas in Tsirang is slowly, but definitely making its way into the homes. Many farmers have now started replacing wood fed stoves with bio-gas. Our correspondent, Pema Namgay, says the success of bio-gas plants in other Dzongkhags and its benefits are drawing the attention of the farmers.

Jomotsangkha town in Samdrup Jongkhar has enormous potential for trade and commerce. The town connects the two Indian States of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. However, inadequate infrastructure development remains a bottleneck. Some of the buildings, which are over 40 years, remain in a dilapidated state.

Fire rages on

(Lhuentse fire update) Fire fighters in Lhuentse are still battling the forest fire in Jarey Gewog. The fire, in its 4th day today, has destroyed over 500 acres of forests. The Beat Officer told BBS the area includes parts of Thrumsingla National Park in Ura, Bumthang.

More stabbing cases

The Losar celebration this year weren’t without problems. Police in the capital are looking for a suspect, involved in yet another stabbing case. A student of Motithang Higher Secondary School was stabbed above the weekend vegetable market yesterday. According to the hospital, the student suffered multiple wounds on his head and back. Doctors described it as minor injury.
