Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye, the new President of SAARCLAW

Supreme Court’s Chief Justice, Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye is the new president of SAARCLAW.  South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in Law (SAARCLAW) is an association of legal communities of the SAARC countries comprising of judges, lawyers, academicians, law teachers, public officers and a host of other law related persons registered with the SAARC secretariat in Kathmandu.

Tashi Group contributes five million to His Majesty’s Kidu Fund

Tashi Group- the biggest private business entity in the country celebrated its golden jubilee today. It was a small shop in the border town of Phuentsholing in 1959. Started with a meager capital of Nu. 2,500, Tashi Group is today the biggest business house in the country.

His Majesty meets De-Suung volunteers

His Majesty the King today met with the volunteers of the De-Suung training programme in Tencholing, Wangduephodrang. The training programme which is unique and first of its kind is another milestone in the history of Bhutan. It was conceived and created by His Majesty the King.

1 dead and 2 injured in Chamkhar fire

Chamkhar fire update: Chamkhar town in Bumthang was once again engulfed by fire early this morning. Its been barely four months that Chamkhar town experienced the worst major fire disasters in the country. The fire which started around 1:30 am razed 19 houses to the ground and partially damaged one. It housed 29 shops. A 24-year-old man working with a meat shop has been confirmed dead. His wife and son are severely injured. They have been referred to the national referral hospital.

New Principal appointed for Tango Buddhist College

His Holiness the Je Khenpo appointed Lopen Sangay Dorji as the Principal of the Tango Buddhist College. Lopen Sangay Dorji received Tashi lekdhar from His Holiness at the Puna Dewai Chenpo Phodrang early this morning.

Another fire in Chamkhar

BREAKING NEWS: Another fire broke out in Chamkhar Town, Bumthang at around 1:30 this morning. This time the fire engulfed the houses located along the road towards Trashigang. Around 18 houses were razed to the ground and one man is confirmed dead. Cause of the fire is not known.

His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Director General of Military Operations of India Lieutenant General AM Verma at the Tashichhodzong today. Lt. General Verma arrived in the Kingdom on a six day visit on Sunday.

Samtse town planning painstakingly slow

The residents of Samtse town have been waiting eagerly for the local area plan to take off. However the process is painstakingly slow according to the residents. Samtse town established in late ’60s is one of the oldest towns in the country.
