Ara confiscated

Police in Gelephu have confiscated 49 bottles of locally brewed alcohol known as ara, 15 cartoons of yeasts and 65 kilograms of Bangchhang, locally brewed beer, on Sunday.

Petrol price to skyrocket

The price of petrol is expected to increase by more than Nu.2 per litre. The hike will come into effect from tomorrow according to the Department of Trade. This is the second hike in a month and the fourth within a year.

Accident kills a seven-year-old

A seven-year-old girl died when the Wagon R she was travelling in met with an accident at Namseling in Thimphu. The accident took place at 9:30 am today.

Man arrested for selling fake rhino horn

The Thimphu police have arrested a 32-year-old man from Wangduephodrang on suspicion of selling fake rhino horns. The suspect and an accomplice were arrested while on their way to a potential customer’s house in Changjiji on January 14.

Passengers stranded

Scores of passengers were stranded overnight at Kikila by the snowfall yesterday. The snowfall caused a major roadblock which could be cleared only this afternoon. It was only after the block was cleared that the passengers managed to proceed towards Bumthang.

Strike closes Phuentsholing border gate

The Indo-Bhutan border gate at Phuentsholing is closed for two days due to a strike in the neighbouring Indian state of West Bengal. The 48 hour strike began yesterday.

Disability assessment launched

The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, and the National Statistical Bureau in collaboration with UNICEF launched the 2nd stage of the Disability Assessment of Children between two and nine years yesterday.

12-year-old killed in accident

A 12-year-old boy has been killed on the spot when the vehicle he was travelling in went off the road in Jomotshangkha, Samdrupjongkhar. The accident occurred at around 3pm on Thursday.

Thrompoen hopefuls to lock horns in live debates

The Election Commission will be holding live debates among the candidates contesting the Thrompoen elections. It will be organised by BBS.

Imposter receives four years

The Thimphu district court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to four years in prison for deceiving and robbing people. He has also been found guilty of robbery, impersonation, and theft.
