Closing time for discotheques and bars

As an interim measure, discotheques may follow previous timings said the Information and Communications Minister, Lyonpo Nandalal Rai. This will come as good news for party goers and discotheque owners alike.

Draft delimitation plan of Chiwogs released

The draft delimitation plan of Geog Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhong or the Chiwog boundary in the 205 Geogs in the 20 districts is now ready. It was released by the Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi today. The delimitation plan is required for the local government elections.

Burglars caught in the act

Thimphu police have apprehended three young men in connection with a series of burglaries in the capital. Two of the men, both 17 years old, were caught red handed as they were burgling a residence in Motithang early yesterday morning.

Seven detected with malaria in Gelephu

Gelephu hospital has detected seven people with malaria so far this month. This is the second highest malaria cases to be detected in a single month. The highest was recorded last April when the hospital detected 36 cases.

Thromde election candidates given more time

The Election Commission has postponed the last date for filing of nomination of candidates for Thrompon and Thromde Tshogpas to January 7, 2011. Previously it was December 27, 2010. The election campaign will now begin on January 8, 2011.

Stranded passengers leave

Hundreds of passengers stranded in Gelephu by a 12 hour strike in Assam and West Bengal, India, have been able to proceed on their journey in nick of time. They managed to leave today, just one day before another two day strike is to begin.
