His Majesty arrives in the country

His Majesty arrived in the Kingdom from a nine day visit to India this afternoon. In India, His Majesty was received with great warmth by the people and the government of India.

Drukair launches its flight to Guwahati

Drukair, the national flag carrier, will now fly to Guwahati with the launching of its maiden flight yesterday. This is expected to bring in more Indian tourists to the country. The 35 to 50 minutes duration flight from Paro to Guwahati will fly over the Dobji Dzong and Chapcha in Chhukha Dzongkhag.

Return of the Dragon’s Gift

The sacred artifacts of Bhutan returned home, yesterday, after touring the world for more than two years. The artifacts belonging to 36 Lhakhangs and Dzongs left the country in November 2007 for the, “Dragon’s Gift: the sacred arts of Bhutan”, exhibition.

Bhutan 36th on corruption index

Bhutan bounced to the top spot in the Asia-Pacific region as one of the least corrupted country with a score of 5.7 on the Corruption Perceptions Index 2010. A report released by Transparency International ranks Bhutan at the 36th position among 178 countries.

Thousand butter lamps for Bumthang victims

The monks of the Daga Tashiyangtse Dzong led by His Holiness the Je Khenpo offered a thousand butter lamps, for the victims of the Bumthang fire yesterday. His Holiness is presiding over the Moenlam Chenmo- the world peace prayers in Dagana.

His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo meets with the victims of Bumthang fire

His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo today met with the victims of Bumthang fire. Fifty nine houses including hotels and shops of Chamkhar town were razed to the ground in one of the worst major fire disasters in the country in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Missing man confirmed dead

(Fire Update) A passenger travelling from Thimphu to Trashigang, who was reported missing in the Bumthang fire mishap, has been confirmed dead. The body of the deceased was found from the ruins of Sonam Hotel at around 10 am today.

59 shops razed, 1 charred to death

(Fire Update) In one of the worst major fire disasters in the country, almost half the Chamkhar town in Bumthang has been completely razed to the ground by a fire at around 1.45 am today. The fire is said to have started from a mobile shop.

Slight decrease in the number of accidents

With the increasing number of vehicles in the country, number of accidents has been on the rise every year. Last year a total of 1,436 accident cases were reported across the country. However, there is a slight decrease in the cases this year. Around 980 accident cases have been reported till date.
